Jonathan Swift: Gullivers Reisen
With the novel »Gulliver\'s Travels« from 1726, Jonathan Swift wrote a satirical allegory of England, which was developing into a democracy as the first major state in which an elected chamber became the central political force. In the land of Lilliput, where the ship-travelling doctor Gulliver involuntarily ends up, there is a »fierce party quarrel« between the Tramecksan, named after their high-heeled shoes, and the Slamecksan, who wear shoes with low heels. In the dispute over political principles, politicians lose sight of moderation and humanity due to their greed for power and know-it-all attitude. This satire appeals to the reader\'s realisation and calls for participation.
